This week the school staff came together to gain an understanding of the strategy. Led by the School Improvement Team, all staff spent the day examining the 14 parameters and how these had been implemented in schools.
Examining a case study of Armadale Public school, staff identified some key changes that were put in place at the school to improve outcomes for students.

Staff then presented their thinking on a mind map, highlighting the key elements they felt where evident in the case study.
Members of the Team led staff through a jigsaw activity, to gain a deeper insight into key element. Once we had an understanding of each parameter, voting was conducted to come to a consensus as to which parameter(s) we felt we could address over the coming year.

Overwhelmingly, staff selected Parameters which focused on building their capacity as Literacy teachers. Parameter #3 Daily, Sustained, Focused Literacy Instruction will be the main focus of work this year. This will require us to determine a whole school instructional framework and approach to enable a balanced literacy block for all students to achieve.
