7. Job-Embedded Professional Learning In Literacy
All teachers are supported to have the knowledge and skills to teach literacy and numeracy skills specific to their area of teaching. Schools promote a sharing of knowledge and a culture of enquiry between teachers to improve and embed practice across all learning areas.
This parameter considers that literacy professional development should be at the forefront of staff meetings and led by the principal. During staff meetings, staff work together to understand literacy assessment and instructional methods based on reviewing the school's data. Staff meetings are also an opportunity to discuss and review improvement processes that the school has undertaken.
The principal and the literacy team use data to assess areas of need for staff learning. They model the key message of collaboration. Meetings, led by the principal, are used for staff professional learning and staff are encouraged to discover practices that lead to improved outcomes.
